Manchester City Council

A six-year overhaul of how a major city council runs its technology: new data centres, modern email for 10,000 staff, and a single view of every citizen across services.

The problem

MCC needed to modernise the technology behind its services at a time of severe budget pressure, while redesigning how the whole council ran its IT.

Old core systems were unstable, infrastructure across multiple sites was ageing, email was stuck on a platform with no way forward, and there was no single view of a citizen across contact centres and frontline services.

What we built

We moved the council systems into new, purpose-built data centres, stabilised 1400 core business systems, and migrated 10,000 staff to modern cloud working systems. We gave the council a single citizen view across contact centres, environmental services and social care, helping teams see the person behind the record, not just the record itself.

  • Council-wide transformation delivered under severe cost pressure
  • SAP ECC6 stable on the new estate
  • 8,000 users migrated off Lotus Notes
  • Single customer view live across MCC services
