DEFRA · Environment Agency

One connected platform for measuring carbon across 800+ construction projects, replacing scattered spreadsheets with a single, auditable view of a £5.2bn portfolio.

The problem

DEFRA and the Environment Agency needed to measure carbon impacts from construction consistently across a £5.2bn portfolio, but every team had to use technology that was no longer fit for purpose.

Carbon estimates were scattered across spreadsheets and one-off tools, making them slow to produce, impossible to compare, and hard to trust. They needed one reliable way to assess carbon across hundreds of projects.

What we built

We built a single platform that gave every project the same way to estimate and record carbon impacts, rolled out across more than 800 construction projects. The result was one consistent, auditable view of carbon across the whole portfolio, which the Environment Agency now runs as a permanent service.

  • Standardised carbon model across the estate
  • 800+ projects on the new platform
  • Calculation logic moved to Azure
  • Transitioned to BAU service
